Happy New Year 2023

Today is the Lunar New Year day (Tet in Vietnam). I want to reflect on my 2022 and look forward to what 2023 will bring.

In 2022, I joined an online yoga class with a group of people. Every morning, around 6AM, we gathered together and did the live (online) session with a qualified yoga instructor. With her help, I realise something I need to improve in the yoga technique (squeeze abs, “siết bụng”).

I have occasionally practiced yoga over the last 10 years, on and off. I also did pregnancy yoga throughout both of my pregnancies. However, recently my body get stiffer as I don’t keep practicing it. Joining the yoga group was an opportunity to get connected with my body again. I would like to say thank you to em La Hien, for organising such a lovely group. In 2023, I hope I can find time to do yoga again (it’s not easy though as I have two little monkeys at home, who would find every chance to interfere with my session. You can imagine one monkey attempts to climb on my back and the other constantly makes the noise while I need to be in the quiet moment)…

Around Summer 2022, I also took my first steps on running. I have heard people saying “running is the moving meditation”. It is so true. For me, it was a chilled experience. I found myself stronger and more energetic after every running session. I will try to keep running again this year. There are people who promote running on barefoot to let our bodies connect with Mother Earth and also it’s the natural way to run for humans. I have tried it few times (by running on my barefoot in my grass garden and it felt quite good when my feet can feel the grass and the earth again).

In 2022, I also got back to my juicing routine. I ordered my juicer about 5 years ago (in 2017) but due to the time taken to wash it and my limited understanding about fresh raw food at that time, I didn’t juice very often. But I have to say juicing is so good for our body. There is a famous video about juicing (Super Juice Me, you can find it on Youtube). It has helped many people regain their health after suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, colon disease, asthma, etc. I also have a collection of books around this topic and if you want to find out more, you can check them out. Among them are “The enzyme factor” (by Dr. Hiroshi Shinya), “Fresh vegetables and fruit juices” (by Dr. Norman Walker who invented the Walker juicer and promoted healthy living through fresh eating, for your reference, he was 99 years young so I guess his advice and thoughts are worth to listen to 😃).

Last year, I also started looking for work that I enjoy doing. Many people may not know I occasionally do some part-time/ freelance work about Digital marketing, market research, SEO, content creation while looking after my two children. I love the job as it has taught me a lot when it comes to digital marketing strategies that big brands are using to maintain their brands in the market. As my youngest child is now older, I am looking to transition myself into a more permanent role and career.

I did my Masters in Finance and my MBA long time ago and I want to make use of them. So recently I looked for a vacancy in Deals Advisory and Financial Advisory at two firms. I still remember my feeling and my eagerness to learn when I read stuff and articles surrounding the economic trends, the buy and sell sides, how to valuate the firms, the financial modelling and how the government policies influence the market, etc. I don’t know how to get my foot into this area so I have decided to take some online training courses on Financial Modelling and Forecasting Financial statement to refresh my learning.

In 2023, I am thinking about doing some trainings or taking some professional qualifications.

In 2023, I also want to complete my data analysis training course. My husband gifted me a Python online course as a birthday present about 2 or 3 years ago but I have never completed it. I hope in 2024, I can be proud to tell him (and myself) that finally I have made use of that birthday present 🥲

In 2023, our family also has faced with quite a big change. My husband has recently got a new job. He is doing clinical research for a pharmaceutical setting now. This job has brought some good things to our family and his work-life balance as he doesn’t need to be on calls with night shifts, weekend shifts as previously working at a hospital. Plus, he feels happier with the new job as his day gets more excited and has filled with new learning. At the same time, we have to move house (again) to accommodate with his new job. But so far, 2022 has been a journey for us. Although there were some bumps along the way, I hope we will feel more settled in 2023 😃
